Penfield Christian Homes, Inc., now known as Penfield Addiction Ministries, was born out of a vision of the Penfield Baptist Church and the Georgia Baptist Association, with the support of the Georgia Baptist Convention and the North American Mission Board.

Our History

In 1973, Penfield Baptist Church and the Georgia Baptist Association began discussions about transforming the original home of the President of Mercer University in Penfield, Georgia, into a ministry dedicated to helping men overcome alcohol addiction.

1977

Penfield Addiction Ministries, Inc. was officially incorporated by the Secretary of State of Georgia.

1979

After repairs to the original home were completed and staff were selected, full-time ministry began.

1988

Dedication services were held for a new 30-bed dormitory as the ministry grew and additional staff were hired.

2004

Expanded to 50 beds at the main campus, adding office space and a full-size gym.

2008

Opened a 30-bed South Campus in Alapaha, Berrien County, Georgia.

2010

Penfield was licensed by the State of Georgia.

2012

Merged with the 29-bed HEART Program for women in Lavonia, Franklin County, Georgia.

2017

Penfield Christian Homes was renamed Penfield Addiction Ministries.

2022

The South Campus was closed, and all services were transferred to the Union Point Campus.

2024

The male recovery residence moved to a new 15-bed location in Union Point, Georgia.

2024

Penfield Addiction Ministries was accredited by CARF.

What began as a small ministry has grown into a thriving community of care. Our dedicated staff, expanded facilities, and evidence-based programs continue to evolve—helping more men and women find lasting recovery through faith, compassion, and proven treatment.

  • Many come to Penfield after a spiritual experience that led them to seek help with addiction. Others encounter God for the first time while at Penfield.

    The Georgia Baptist Healthcare Ministry Foundation has been instrumental in providing grants to support Penfield’s growth and continues to partner with us today. Penfield is supported through gifts from churches and individuals, grants, as well as client fees and insurance.

    • Certified by GARR (Georgia Association of Recovery Residences)

    • CARF certified 2024

    • Approved as Transitional Housing Offender Reentry by the Georgia Board of Pardons and Parole (THOR Directory)
